The American Dream

Where has it gone?

When I was growing up I was told that in order to be an adult with a secure future I must go to school, get a degree, work hard for a company for 25-30 years, then I could retire with a pension and live well in my old age. Robert Kiyosaki talks about this in his book Rich Dad Poor Dad.

Well Guess what.... my father had that dream too and after over 30 years with IBM most of his money goes to paying health benefits. Most Americans are lucky to have them but even with them people are chosing between medicine or care over food due to the high co-pays.

Our parents had 1 job and stuck with the company and the company usually stuck by them. Now according to the Dept. of Labor the average American has 10-14 jobs . We are liabilities to companies now. When was the last time you spoke to a person on the phone and not spend 15 min. pushing buttons and still not get to where you wanted to go? Or went to the local store and check yourself out using the machine yourself ? We are disposable.

There is a new wave of Employment out there. A revised American Dream if you will. Same Dream different means to getting it. This used to be risky but now many are making far better lives for themselves.

Follow me as we discuss this further.
